Biography

When Summer was born, her mother assured the midwife and her father that their daughter was destined for greatness, that she was special. No one took stock in the statement as every parent believes their child, their firstborn, is destined for greatness. When Summer was four years old, she walked up to her mother and placed her hand upon her stomach, telling her mother that she was going to have a baby. Two months later, there was no denying that Summer had been correct in her prediction but she also added to it, telling her mother it would be a daughter. When the child was born, it was a daughter. It was at that point the Glau family began to realize that Summer was truly special after all.

As Summer grew up, it was hard to hide her talent. She saw the world in a different light, and heard things that otherwise went unspoken but in her mind they had been said clearly. She would answer thoughts, tell strangers things she could not possibly know and some began to accuse her of being a witch. Her family, devoutly Christian, looked to the help of the Church to verify what she did was not the work of a demon or devil. It was easily ascertained that no evil touched Summer, and she was left to enter adolescence without concerns.

Mind Reading

Summer is capable of hearing the thoughts of anyone around her. As a result, she has to be a social outcast and is unable to venture into the heart of the town. There are simply too many thoughts at the same time, and it is a sensory overload that has effects that last for days. She has learned more about the world than her parents would like by eavesdropping on the minds of those she encounters or nearing town as much as she can stand. There is a great deal she does not understand, such as anyone harboring ill will towards another person or sadness at a life situation that cannot be changed. Summer is quick to trust and even easier to be hurt by leaving her, unable to grasp the idea of making a friend to leave them.

Fantasia: Where dreams come alive. It's what everybody expected the Renaissance to be...where mythical beings roam the streets with humans. Centuries-old enmities between races divide the people and the peasents work long hours in order to keep their homes. Children are home schooled by their parents and kept at work around the home. Teenagers are practically sold off to the richest candidate so they can help to support their families. Young adults become prostitutes to make more money. All in all, Fantasia isn't the best place in the world...but they get by alright.
